Obituary of Doris Loviana Bex

Doris Loviana (Maick) Bex, 87, of Bedford, was called to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 7th, 2011. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Born November 2, 1924 she was the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Craig) Maick. She married Robert Bex on February 5, 1944, and he preceded her in death. Doris had attended Assembly of God church in Bedford and Dive Christian Church. Doris had worked at Delco-Remy briefly, the old Woolworth store in Bedford, and was trained in Cosmetology in Indianapolis. She owned and operated Bex Beauty Salon in Bedford for many years, until her retirement, serving at least once as the local hairdressers groups president. She enjoyed many activities, reading her bible, gardening, often growing starts to give to friends and family, knitting, crocheting, needle point, cross stitch and quilting to name a few. She also loved to cook and bake, often giving the breads or puddings to others. Doris received an official thank you letter from the city for making food for the police and fire workers during one of the blizzards of the late 70s. Doris loved to sit on her back deck and watch and feed the animals in her yard. Squirrels, birds, even the ground hog that lives under her yard barn. Doris was an avid IU basketball, Pacer basketball, and Damon Bailey fan. Doris is survived by a sister, Regiena Swango of Orlando, Florida, two brothers, Lurley Maick and wife, Barbara of Arcadia, Florida and Eddie Maick of Bedford, a daughter, Sonya Riddle and husband, Kyle of Orlando, Florida, one son, Robert Bex II and wife, Patty of Bedford, grandchildren; Soni McCarty and husband Art, Regiena Irizar and husband CJ and Kyle Riddle III all of Florida, Robin Bex of Bloomington, Jennifer Bex of Indianapolis, Mathew Turner and wife Dianna of Bedford, Angie Chase and husband, Joe of Springville, great-grandchildren; Gia, Mari and CJ (Carlos) Maxwwell, Allie & Kenzie McCarty of Florida, Lauren and Garrett Turner of Bedford, Taylor and Ashley Chase of Springville, other family and dear friends. Also preceeding her in death were daughter-in-law, Claudia J. (Helton) Bex, sisters; Louise Maick, Eileen Koch, Lima Summers, Gretchen Ballinger, Mildred Lyons and Rhodressa Taylor. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastors Bill McKee and Glenn Duncan. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm 8:00 pm on Friday, December 9th and from 10:00 am until the hour of the service on Saturday at the mortuary. Donations Information It was Doris wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made for a Bex Family Memorial scholarship. Contributions may be delivered to Day & Carter Mortuary.
