Obituary of Glen Sykes

Bedford Glen Sykes, 82, of 2702 W. 16th Street, Bedford, IN, died at 4:17 pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born April 2, 1921 in Kentucky, he was the son of Warner and Carrie (Ray) Sykes. He married Juanita Owens Gratzer on October 12, 1957 and she survives. He retired from GM Powertrain in Bedford and was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army and a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Surviving with his wife, Juanita are two sons, Charles Gratzer of Rushville and Tony Sykes of Greenwood; one daughter, Donna Hawkins of Bedford; two brothers, Charles and Arthur Sykes both of Bedford; two sisters, Teresa Barker and Virginia Trout both of Bedford; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Betty Brooking; two brothers, Chester and Dallas Sykes; two sisters, Flossie and Berta. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 19th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
