Obituary of John W. Stipp

Bedford John W. Stipp, of Bedford, died at 4:27 am on Friday, September 21, 2012 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital. Born November 9, 1914 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Virgil and Grace Jackson Stipp. He graduated from Shawswick High School in 1934 and Purdue University in 1940. Survivors include his wife, Marie, one son, Joe Mark Stipp and wife Brenda of Louisville, KY, one daughter, Cathy Stipp Forbes of Atlanta, GA and one grandson, John Noel Stipp and wife Beth of Chicago, IL. John attended First Christian Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge F & AM in North Vernon, IN, Scottish Rites, Valley of Indianapolis, Retired Teachers Association, American Legion and Military Officers Association of America. He married Marie Cave on March 24, 1940 at Vallonia, IN, where he taught Vocational Agriculture at Vallonia High School. He enlisted as a commissioned officer in WW II, proudly and honorably serving on the U.S.S. Schneck in the Atlantic Theatre. Later he returned to teaching in Jennings and Decatur counties and ended his teaching career at Shawswick High School. He was a dedicated teacher and was highly regarded by his students. Funeral Information Private services will be held. There will be no visitation.
