Obituary of Charles R. Sowders

Bedford Charles R. Sowders, 62, of Bedford, died at 1:50 pm on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born April 26, 1947 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Charles W. and Alice Irene (Hendricks) Sowders. He married Susan Smith on September 19, 1970 and she survives. He was a retired foreman with underground utilities and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed fishing, ginseng hunting, gardening and deer hunting. Survivors include his wife, Susan of Bedford; one son, Doug Sowders and girlfriend, Christi Kline of Bedford; one daughter, Kelly Sowders of Bedford; three grandchildren, BreOnna Charles, Wyatt Sowders and Corbin Kline; one brother, Dennis Sowders of Heltonville; three sisters, Susan Bland of Bloomington, Pamela Cook of Mitchell and Kimberly Evans of Stinesville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Monday, April 5th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Billy Brim officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 4th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
