Obituary of Russell O Schoolcraft
Bedford Russell O. Schoolcraft, 92, of Bedford, died at 10:55 am on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Garden Villa. He formerly resided on N street in Bedford for over 20 years.
Born September 30, 1920 in Martinsville, he was the son of Lewis and Vada (Anderson) Schoolcraft. He married Norma Ward on April 12, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2006. Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II, where he received three Bronze Stars and other medals of honor. He retired from Texas Gas as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. Russell was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 and was recognized as the oldest member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Schoolcraft and companion Amanda Evans of Bedford; two daughters, Linda Jones and husband Greg of Panama City, FL, and Mitzi Flynn and husband John of Bedford; six grandsons, Todd Roberts, Bret Carmichael and wife Joni, Troy Schoolcraft and wife Brittany, Jesse Flynn and Micah Flynn all of Bedford, and Thomas Schoolcraft and wife Heather of Martinsville; two granddaughters, Mindy Schuth and husband Jon of Bedford, and Jennifer Flynn and companion Mike Parks of Bedford; several great and great-great grandchildren; several siblings; and one niece, Judy Deckard. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; step-father, Bob Owens; and several siblings. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 12th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Bill Mckee officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary where an Eagles service will be conducted at 1:30 pm.
