Obituary of Martha Jane Robbins
Bedford Martha Jane Robbins, 85, of Bedford, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 after a long illness.
Born July 14, 1924 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Dollis and Samuel Stevens. She spent her childhood in southern Indiana. She married Garrel Edwin Robbins on September 15, 1940. When he enlisted in the Navy in WW II, she moved to Santa Barbara, CA. After the war, they returned to Bedford to start their family. When their children were school age, she returned to school, completing her high school education and earning a Bachelors Degree in Education from Indiana University. While teaching in local area schools, she finished her Masters Degree in Education. She retired in 1985 after teaching for over d decade at Grandview Elementary School in Bloomington.
She is survived by two children, Steven Ronald Robbins of Bedford and Rebecca Robbins-Jessee, M.D. of Williams, a granddaughter, Anna Marie Robbins of Orleans, and two sisters, Mary Ann Culhan of Bedford and Patsy Smith of Washington, IN. Her devoted husband, Garrel, predeceased her shortly after celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary. Funeral Information
