Obituary of Dessie E. Hawkins

Bedford Dessie E. Hawkins, 89, of Bedford, went to her Heavenly Home at 12:10 am on Friday, October 12, 2007 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born February 3, 1918 in Martin Co., she was the daughter of Isaac and Eva (Stroud) Wade. She first married Irvin Hicks. She later married Gilbert Hawkins and they both preceded her in death. Dessie was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God. Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Wilcox of Bloomington, Evelyn Pruett and her husband, Roy, of Bedford, Carolyn Pruett and her husband, Danny and Anita Hamilton all of Bedford; two sisters, Ola Morrow and Victorine Rollman both of Bedford; one brother, Harley Wade of Bedford; nineteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three daughters, Eva Sowder, Hazel Young, and Phyllis Lewis; one son, Russell Hicks; three brothers, William, George and Harold Wade; four sisters, Gertie Owens, Dovie Douglass, Myrtle Moore and Grace Allen; two grandchildren, Billy McCluskey and Jimmy Pruett and two great grandchildren. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Monday, October 15th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
